I read it twice in rapid succession before I gave it to the next person, and I've been following her work ever since. I've read <i>Woman on the Edge of Time</i> several times, and finally wrote about it <a href="http://thisislikesogay.blogspot.com/2011/10/present-is-disputed-area.html" rel="nofollow">here</a>. I don't know whether it's formally conventional or not; I'm glad to see that you came to question that initial assessment. It has something in common with Ursula LeGuin's <i>The Dispossessed,</i> which was published around the same time.
